  • What is Drop-in, and how does it work?
    Drop-in is a ride-sharing platform that connects surfers with one another to share lifts to their favorite surf spots. Drivers can post their journeys, and passengers can request a ride. The app ensures a safe and easy experience with payments handled securely through Stripe.
  • Who can use Drop-in?
    Anyone in the UK who wants to share rides with fellow surfers—whether you're a driver or a passenger—is welcome to join.
  • Is Drop-in available outside of the UK?
    Not yet. We're currently focused on the UK while we test and improve the app, but stay tuned for future expansions!
  • Is Drop-in free to use, or are there any costs involved?
    Drop-in is completely free to use. The only exchange of money is directly between passengers and drivers for fuel costs, handled securely through Stripe. The only commission on this transaction is to cover Stripe processing fees and operational costs.

  • Do I need to sign up to use Drop-in?
    Yes, everyone needs to create an account to use the platform.

For Drivers

  • How do I become a driver on Drop-in?
    To become a driver, you must first complete Stripe Connect Onboarding from your Profile page. For added trust, verify your identity and confirm your phone number under "Get Verified".
  • Do I need a specific type of vehicle to become a driver?
    As long as your vehicle can fit you, other passengers, and possibly a couple of surfboards, you’re good to go!
  • Is my car insured when I drive with Drop-in?
    Drop-in does not cover insurance for drivers or passengers. You are responsible for ensuring your car is insured for ridesharing activities.
  • What happens if I cancel a ride after accepting it as a driver?
    If you cancel a ride, the passenger will receive a refund. If the cancellation occurs less than 24 hours before the ride, it may be flagged on your profile to warn future passengers.
  • How do I get paid for driving with Drop-in?
    When you share your future travel plans, the app will estimate the fuel cost that will then be split between the passengers who join your ride. Drivers can adjust this price to ensure a fair price for their vehicle running costs. After the journey is completed, the money will be released from Stripe into your account, and you will be able to withdraw it. Please note: the goal of Drop-in is to make ride-sharing accessible and affordable for everyone and we do not encourage drivers to profit from their journeys.

For Passengers

  • How do I request a ride on Drop-in?
    You can search for rides by date and location, and submit a request after providing your details (such as whether you’re bringing a surfboard and its size). If the driver agrees, your request will be accepted, and a payment of your contribution to the fuel costs will be taken by the app and held until the ride is completed before being released to the driver.
  • Can I request rides for specific times or dates?
    Yes, you can filter available rides by date and location to find the best match for your needs.
  • How do I know if a ride is available near me?
    You can search for available rides in your area using the app’s location filter. If a ride is available, you’ll be able to submit a request.
  • What happens if my driver cancels the ride?
    If your driver cancels the ride, you’ll be notified and refunded. We encourage drivers to honor their commitments, and cancellation penalties may apply in certain situations.
  • How do I pay for my ride?
    You will pay for your ride through the app, using the payment method linked to your account. This payment is securely handled through Stripe.
  • How are ride prices determined?
    Ride prices are based on an estimated fuel cost for the journey, which is then split evenly among the passengers. Drivers have the option to adjust this amount to account for their vehicle running costs. You’ll always see the exact cost before requesting to join a ride. Please note: the goal of Drop-in is to make ride-sharing accessible and affordable for everyone and we do not encourage drivers to profit from their journeys.

Safety & Insurance

  • Are Drop-in rides safe? What steps are taken to ensure safety?
    Your safety is our top priority. All users can get verified in the app to earn a verified badge that lets others know you’re a trusted user. Verification involves phone number verification, proof of ID, and a selfie for confirmation. Additionally, all payments are processed securely through Stripe, so your payment details are always protected.
  • What should I do if I feel unsafe during a ride?
    If you feel unsafe during a ride, contact the police immediately. If possible, end the ride and leave the vehicle in a safe location.
  • What happens if there’s an accident during a ride?
    In the event of an accident, both passengers and drivers are encouraged to follow legal and insurance procedures. All rides are arranged directly between users and Drop-in itself does not provide insurance for these rides.
